How to diagnose and treat Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)?

How the PCOS is he diagnosed?

Your gynecologist will ask you questions about your medical history and symptoms. You will also have a physical examination which includes: Ultrasound to look at the size of the ovaries and see if they have cysts. Blood tests. These seek out high levels of androgens and other hormones. Your gynecologist may also check your blood sugar as well as your cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

How is the PCOS?

Unfortunately the PCOS is not curable, but it is easily treatable. Treatment for PCOS depends on a number of factors. These may include your age, the severity of your symptoms, and your general health. The type of treatment may also depend on whether you want to become pregnant in the near future.

A healthy diet and more physical activity can help you lose weight and reduce your symptoms . They may also help your body use insulin more efficiently, lower blood sugar, and ovulate. For stable hormonal balance, our bodies need healthy fats and B vitamins.

That's why I recommend my patients adiet high in cold-pressed flaxseed oil rich in omega-3s, nuts and seeds, and vitamin-rich foods B such as dark leafy greens, mushrooms and avocado. I also suggest that they devote at least 150 to 300 minutes per week to moderate-intensity endurance activity.

A healthy lifestyle can prevent secondary diseases of the cardiovascular system, which are more common in PCOS.

Drug treatment – according to the desire to have children

- Metformin This diabetes medication is often used to reduce insulin resistance in PCOS.It may also help reduce androgen levels, slow hair growth, and help you ovulate more regularly.

- If you are planning to become pregnant, your treatment may include: Drugs to induce ovulation.

- If you are not planning to become pregnant, your treatment may include: Contraceptive Pills. These help control menstrual cycles, lower androgen levels and reduce acne.

- Drugs to treat other symptoms. Certain medications can help reduce hair growth or acne.

Getting pregnant with PCOS

If you want to have kids and have the PCOS, Letrozole (or Clomiphene), drugs that can support or induce ovulation, can help you.

These drugs also carry some risks. They can increase the chances of a multiple pregnancy (twins or more), which is more risky for mother and child than a single pregnancy. And they can cause ovarian hyperstimulation. Therefore, it is important to be followed by a gynecologist during treatment.

Observing the development of follicles not only helps to prevent multiple pregnancies, but also to determine the best time for ovulation induction. Thus it is possible to schedule intercourse at the most appropriate time to increase your chances of conceiving. Observing the growth of the follicles also helps to adapt the dosage of Letrozole (or Clomifen) to your body's needs.
